Kiphire for implementation of Delimitation Act 2002

Kiphire | March 26

Students and the general public of Kiphire strongly oppose the decision of the State Delimitation Commission for ‘misleading the Central Delimitation committee’ in the internal re-adjustment of assembly seats. The students’ community seriously observed the state Government’s policy and the “maneuver tactics” of the state Delimitation committee. The public feels insecure ‘for keeping them under question mark as there is no justice in terms of political, economic social and educational balance in the state.’

The general public along with the students’ community urges the State Delimitation committee to strictly implement the delimitation act 2002 as amended in 2003. That according to the 2001 census the total population of Kiphire district figure stands approximately at one Lakh twenty four thousand. Altogether in 2 constituencies i.e., 59 A/C and 60 A/C, the round figure stands 62,000 against each assembly constituency whereas some “advanced tribes district” have twenty to twenty-five thousand population against each assembly constituency as per 2001 census. Then the delimitation exercise for Kiphire district shall tantamount to total gross injustice, the community observed.

The students’ community also reminded that the state delimitation body and state government should acknowledge that the peace process is a totally different issue from that of delimitation of assembly constituencies since the implementation of the Delimitation Act of 2002 amended in 2003 has nothing to do with the Naga political issue. Therefore the students of Kiphire along with the general public with the unanimous resolution that the Delimitation Act 2002, being an act of the Parliament ,assented by the President of India should be immediately enforced for implementation.

Affirming total rejection of what was termed as ‘unjustified district wise internal population and voters adjustment,’ the students of Kiphire along with the public held a procession on March 26 from GA Rest House to Deputy commissioner office and submitted their demands for the immediate implementation of the Delimitation Act 2002.
