Kiphire: Literacy a prerequisite for all round development

Kiphire, May 31 (MExN): The inaugural programme on new India Literacy Program was held at DCs conference hall, Kiphire where master trainers trained adult education teachers from the district on the project on May 30. 

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Rokozeho Sothu, State Nodal Officer Adult Education said, “literacy is a prerequisite for all round development as today’s generation is full of knowledge and people who acquires good knowledge can only get good job opportunity. Besides it is necessary for proper development of the society or nation to have skilled human resources.”

He stated that keeping this in mind, GoI has launched New India Literacy Program (NILP) earlier termed as Adult Education now which is education for all. This programme will cover 15 years and above and will operate for 5 years with a set target to cover over 5 crore illiterate across the country, he informed.

Under the scheme, he said that the program has 5 board objectives in line with the new education policy 2020 which is foundational literacy and numeracy, critical life skills, basic educational learning, vocational skills and continuous education.
He added that NILP aims to provide quality education to adult individual especially to those from disadvantages background who have limited access to educational opportunities.

He said under adult education series of programme for adult illiterate have been implemented at Kiphire including Padha Likhna Abhiyan and now department is all set to implement NILP for the current year with a set target of 12000 illiterates. 

Delivering welcome address, Deenabandhu Panda, DEO Kiphire encouraged the teachers to give their best in making adult education a success. He pointed out that as per the survey Kiphire has around 7000 people who are not literate and called upon the adult education teachers to make all available resources to make the program a success. The DEO Kiphire assured department full assistance and help in implementing the project.
