Kiphire makes effort to improve on cleanliness

Kiphire, January 11 (DIPR): The first meeting of the Kiphire District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) for the year 2011 was held on January 5 under the Chairmanship of C. Kipili Sangtam, MLA, Chairman, NSMDC, Nagaland, & Chairman, DPDB, Kiphire in the office Chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire.
The GBs and Chairmen of different colonies/wards of Kiphire town attended the meeting as special invitees. The DC emphasised on cleanliness of the town and its surroundings and encouraged all the members present in the meeting to propagate the importance of cleanliness to the denizens without waiting for directions or instructions from the government/authorities. As announced last year, during the month of June 2010, to award the cleanliest Wards, the DC announced the award as under: 1st Prize - DC Ward - (`40,000); 2nd Prize - Longya Ward - (`30,000); 3rd Prize (i) - High School Ward - (`15,000), (ii)- Bazar Ward - (`15,000). The prizes were handed over to the winners by the C. Kipili Sangtam, MLA, Chairman, NSMDC, Nagaland, & Chairman, DPDB, Kiphire.
DC Ward wins cleanliest ward title
On cleanliness, the chairman called upon the Kiphire denizens as “languorous.” He encouraged the members to take an example from the awards being distributed. He advised the people of the district to take cleanliness as an important factor in a civilised society and to use dustbins. He also advised the people to make house construction systematically leaving atleast 10 to 15 feet in betweens for footpaths, roads, etc. The Chairman also emphasised the importance of time management and encouraged the leaders and every citizen of the district to make use of time judiciously.
On law and order, the chairman asked the members to maintain peace and tranquility as towns are dwelled by people with certain knowledge of civilisation and called upon them to be law abiding citizens and wake up in unison to the call of time for orderliness. He encouraged the people to work in cooperation to maintain peace as Kiphire is the nerve centre of the entire district. He reminded the Board that there are only two MLAs in the district and encouraged the members to cooperate with both the MLAs to maintain peaceful coexistence as well as other developmental activities.
Taking advantage of their presence in the Board meeting, the Colony chairmen of Longya, Kipongya, Mission and Bazar Wards appealed to the concerned authorities to take up necessary steps to develop their colonies like clearance and construction of drainage, footpaths, proper maintenance of circular roads, landslides, through Small and Medium Town fund and BRGF, etc.
In a review of the last meeting minutes on submission of expenditure statement on “State Plan Schemes”2009-10, departmental profile, proposal for District Plan – 2011-12, the Board directed the defaulting departments to immediately submit without any further delay, before the next meeting. The Board discussed an agenda/proposal received from the United Sangtam Students Conference (USSC) for putting up signboards in all the Government offices. The Board observed that there are some offices in the district Headquarters do not display their office signboards creating an inconveniences to the public. The Board, accordingly, directed all such offices to immediately put up their signboard without any further delay.
The SDO (Electrical), Kiphire was called upon to inform the Board of the latest development of power supply in Kiphire. The officer informed the Board that four new transformers of 100 KVs, (of 25 KVs each), has been installed in Kiphire town and thereby regularised irregularity of power supply for now. He also explained to the satisfaction of the Board on certain queries on recent skirmishes arising out of lifting of LT posts in Seyochung area.
The DC informed all the officers to be in the station during the proposed visit of the Additional Chief Secretary & Commissioner, Nagaland sometime during any day in 2nd week of January 2011 to Kiphire. Meanwhile, both the DC and the MLA/Chairman, DPDB informed that Dr. Shürhozelie, Minister for Urban development, Higher & Technical Education will be visiting Kiphire on January 13 as the chief guest to USSC general conference and directed all the officers to be in the station.
