The General public of Kiphire Town held a public rally here against of the handing over of the NH155 from BRO to PWD. The rally was initiated under the banner of the Kiphire District GBs Association. The GBs along with the public marched to the deputy commissioner with the play cards which read “Don’t deprive the masses off the life line NH-155”; “Public does not have faith in PWD”; “NH155 BRO not PWD”. The general public gathered at the main police point and marched to the Deputy Commissioners Office, and submitted the Memorandum. Various persons spoke on their resentment towards the state government’s decision in handing over the NH155 to the PWD. The general public expressed the opinion that the State Government was depriving the facilities/right of this particular district which is being provided by the central government and that this had hurt the sentiments of the general public of this remote and the backward district. The NH155 is the only life line of this district and only the survival road of its people of the district. Moreover the general public says that if NH155 is handed over to the PWD the Government had taken the wrong decision and had done great injustice towards the people of this district. They also asserted that the quality of the road maintained by BRO and PWD was vastly different.
The General public expressed the strong opinion that it should in no way part with the BRO in maintaining NH-155.The Kiphire District Public forum as such has given 15 days time to the State Government to revoke/cancel the handing over order. Failure to comply with the demand of the Kiphire district Public Forum will invite further action, the sole responsibility of wich would be the government in case of untoward incident occuring during the further course of agitation. Further the various tribal leaders addressing the general public expressed full support to the agitation till their demand is fulfilled by they government.
