Kiphire: Rural library functionaries attend awareness programme

The District Cultural Office, Kiphire today organised district level awareness programme for rural libraries at Agape Hall, Kiphire with Ane Khieya, EAC HQ as special guest.

Speaking at the programme, the EAC emphasised on importance of libraries for rural areas and said, “Libraries are places where people can come together to think, discuss and reflect. It is also a resource for resources-less people and is essential institutions for every society.”

She said that Kiphire being Aspirational District needs to have public library which can bring people together for progressive growth and for this public library, digital classroom are to be setup in few selected schools in the district under Aspirational programme.

Asserting the relevance of library relevant in this digital age, she said, “there is no resource like library and to invest in this resource, it will not only help the citizens but the student community the most.” She asked the participants to inculcate reading as hobby which not only will help an individual learn but evolve to become well informed person. Further, she encouraged the participants to give back the learning of the day as they go back to the respective villagers.

DCO P Yongwe Wumnok in the keynote address highlighted the activities of the department and about the day’s programme. He informed that government has many scheme, provided the rural library function well for atleast 3-5 years. He also disclosed that there are 29 libraries registered in the district and the department is providing books to those performing library.

In the technical session, Vanthungo Jami, Assistant Professor cum Library Supervisor, ZPC and Temjentoshi Ozukum, Assistant professor ZPC spoke on traditional library & digital library pros and cons and organisational and management of public library. Assistant Research Officer, Vilila S Thonger gave hand on training to the participants
