Kiphire, May 25 (MExN): The Kiphire XI emerged as the champions of the Under-23 (Boys) Inter-Kiphire District Cricket Tournament after defeating Oasis Club in the final.
Winning the toss and opting to bat, Kiphire XI scored 179 runs, with Sani Das top-scoring at 43 runs. Chasing the target, Oasis could manage only 100 runs and lost the match by 79 runs.
Meanwhile, Das, who was declared ‘Man of the Match’ in the final, also received the award for the highest score in the tournament with 124 runs.
With 16 wickets, Kiphire XI’s Likhase Sangtam was declared the ‘Best Bowler’, while the ‘Best Wicket Keeper’ laurel went to Peusuthong of Pungro Rovers Club. Pungro Rovers were also adjudged the best disciplined team.
Gracing the closing ceremony, the Tikhir Students Union President, Temong Y Tikhir, acknowledged the Kiphire District Cricket Association (KDCA) for organizing such an event where all youths from the district could come together and share a common platform.
“In order to compete at any level, one has to start from grassroots with dedication and patience,” he said.
Quoting Sachin Tendulkar’s “People throw stones at you and you convert them into milestones,” Tikhir also stressed discipline in all aspects and overcoming obstacles in any manner by honing one’s unique skills and techniques judiciously.
KDCA President Justin Khatomong T proposed the vote of thanks to bring the tournament to an end.
Meanwhile, the KDCA has expressed its gratitude to the special guests of the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the match umpires, the participating teams, and the well-wishers for making the tournament a grand success.
