The burnt remains of the morungs which were razed by a fire at the Heritage Village, Kisama on the early hours of November 11.

Ahead of the Hornbill Festival, the Ao and Chang Morungs at the Heritage Village, Kisama were completely brought down to ashes after a major fire incident occurred early this morning around 3:00-3:20 AM.
While the exact cause of incident could not ascertained till the time of filing the report, the fire was suspected to have started from the Ao Morung which was completely burnt down and spread to the adjacent Chang Morung where major structures were also burnt.
According to both incharges of the Morung, the state government had undertaken major renovation during Hornbill Festival 2019 Edition and preparations for the ensuing festival had just been completed few days back. While, sources from fire station South Kohima updated that property worth Rs 80 Lakhs may have been lost from the fire in the two morungs including the thatched roof structure, traditional wooden crafts, outfits and other valuables, about Rs 1.5 Crore had been saved due to prompt intervention.
The fire station informed that a fire call was received around 3:24 AM and firefighters reached the site, which was 12 kilometers away at 3:49 AM. During the operation, three fire tenders were mobilized with a team led by SI Thepfukranyu, ASI Takawapang, 9 firemen and 3 drivers.
