Kohima, April 27 (MExN): The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Kohima District in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tesophenyu, Kohima organised Kisan Mela under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav ‘Farmers participation is our priority campaign’ at High School junction, Kohima on April 26.
Rokoshuno Angela, Dy PD (ATMA), Kohima said that Kisan Mela is being organised as per the directives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The mela was joined by women's FIG/CIG/FSG and progressive farmers from all the 7 blocks under Kohima district. She said that the main objective of Kisan Mela is to create a platform for the women folk in agriculture to showcase their products in marketing linkage.
Earlier, Kekhrieletuo Yhome, Deputy District Agriculture Officer, DAO Kohima inaugurated the Mela.
Later, farmers-scientist interaction took place wherein Ruokuovilie Mezhatsu, Senior Scientist and Head KVK Tesophenyu along with his team interacted with the farmers. Through this Mela, ATMA Kohima also disseminated technical folders in local dialect under the guidelines of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The technical folder includes some schemes such as Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, Farmers Producer Organization (FPOs), National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM), Kisan Credit Card Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) under the theme 'Farmers participation is our priority.'
The programme concluded with handing over of award to the best performing groups and some progressive farmers.
Dimapur: The 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari Campaign, Kisan Mila was celebrated at ATMA and DAO Office, with DC Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan, as special guest on April 26.
Addressing the gathering, DC gave a brief glimpse of agriculture status of post independence era where food insecurity prevailed due to famines and India was importing food grains from foreign countries. However, he said, India has now caught up with the rest of the world with the scientific ways of farming resulting in green revolution, white revolution, integrated farming, organic farming etc. He encouraged the farmers to be actively involved and interact with the departments in order to avail the various benefits of schemes. The special guest spoke about the decrease of human resources in the present scenario which can be supplemented by adaptation of scientific farming which will aid in increasing farm productivity. DC inaugurated the exhibition stalls put up by various Agri and allied departments and SHGs
DPD (ATMA), Dr Ithika C Swu, in his keynote address said that Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is being celebrated all over India commemorating 75 years of India's independence. He mentioned that the Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari Campaign is being organised by the ministry of agriculture and farmers welfare, government of India from April 25 to 30.
The campaign highlights the achievements and activities under various agrarian flagships schemes where beneficiaries can take up fresh enrollment to avail the financial benefits of Kisan credit schemes through the portal, he said. He highlighted the schemes such as Kisan Sinchai Yojana scheme, Kisan credit card, NFSM etc to the farmers and urged them to avail those schemes for their benifit.
During the programme two farmers from Kuhuboto and Medziphema were felicitated with, ‘Best Progressive Farmers Award.’ A Soil Health Card was also distributed to different farmers under Soil Health Card scheme.
DAO and PD (ATMA), Dimapur, L Mhao Lotha, chaired the programme while DPO, Land Resources, Akato Chishi delivered the welcome address. Vote of thanks for the inaugural programme was delivered by Programme Coordinator, KVK, Dimapur, Dr Ebibeni Ngullie.
Technical session was conducted by PTM, Chümoukedima ATMA Block, Dr Tiatula. Various topics during the session were flagship schemes of government of India such as NFSM, PMKSY and MOVCD - NER by AO, department of agriculture, Roco Peseyie, Plant protection measures were deliberated by AO Dimapur, Dr Arenjungla, techniques of Soil-sampling and labeling was given by JSCO, Dimapur, Khonzani.
During the session, farmer-scientist interaction was also held were the participants were appraised about the various management strategies of vegetable crops, spices, plantation crops, poultry and piggery management and queries raised by the farmers were discussed. Altogether, 196 farmers and 47 officials from agriculture and allied departments attended the day long programme.
Peren: ICAR-KVK Peren, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Jalukie and ATMA, Peren district jointly organised farmers’ fair cum exhibition on ‘Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari Campaign’ and Jal Sakti Abhiyan and Farmers Scientist Interaction under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on April 26 at KVK, Peren Farm with Dr Tinojongshi Chang, ADC Jalukie as chief guest, Sangwan Kumar, Dean, CAU, College of Vety Jalukie and Kevipele, President NZPO as special guests.
The programme was chaired by Dr Patu K Zeliang, ACTO, PBG, KVK Peren and welcome address was pronounced by Dr KL Meena, PS and Head, KVK Peren highlighting the theme of the programme on ‘Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari Campaign’ and Jal Sakti Abhiyan “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.”
Chief Guest awarded the farmer gathering on crop insurance and encouraged them to approach KVK, CAU, College of Vety Jalukie and ATMA, Peren for more of technical help in the future. Special guests also highlighted the importance of Jal shakti Abhiyan and the practice of cultivating millets since then in the district.
Followed by felicitation of farmers from different blocks of Peren District for their appreciable farming practices by ATMA, Peren which was followed by Technical session on the various topic viz.’ Natural Farming (Bharatiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhati)’ by Z James Kikon, ACTO, Soil Sc. KVK Peren, ‘Importance of Millet and Oil Seed cultivation’ by Ms. Isapeule Agri. Inspector, Tening Dept. of Agriculture and on ‘Animal Health Care and Management’ by Dr. L. Babita Devi, CTO, Animal Sc. KVK Peren. Officials of Agri. and allied department also attended the programme.
Exhibition cum Farmers Scientist Interaction and distribution of inputs such as watering can, tools and implements, vegetable seeds were distributed to 175 farmers and FPOs members from four blocks of Peren district attended the programme.
Tuensang: One day Kisan Mela on the theme Kisan Bhagidari Prathamikta Hamari Campaign under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav was organized at the office complex of KVK, Tuensang on April 26. The programme was inaugurated by Leonba Head G.B Chingmelin village, while the invocation prayer was pronounced by C. Shaonchu Village Chairman, Chingmelin invoking God’s blessing. Highlight of the program was delivered by Dr. Pijush Kanti Biswas Sr. Scientist and Head KVK, Tuensang, He emphasized the concept of natural farming and also encouraged the farmer for their efforts in quality production. The gathering was also enlightened by the speech delivered by Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modiji.
ATMA Tuensang and KVK Tuensang exhibited various technologies and posters on Govt. Schemes and programmes while Self Help Group working under the close supervision under of KVK Tuensang displayed their products.
During the technical session, Farmers Scientist interaction was held where the farmers queried about various pest control measures on FAW, Aphids attack in cabbage and blight in potato. The farmer also expressed their field experiences, innovative ideas especially on major crops cultivated by them.
A total of 230 farmers and 30 officials and leaders from three village of Chendang, Kuthur and Chingmelin participated. Vegetable seeds, turmeric, groundnut, maize, green gram were also distributed to the farmer.
Zunheboto: ATMA Zunheboto district organized Day long Kisan Mela on account of ‘Kisan Bhagidhari Prathmikta Hamara Campaign’, on April 26 at Multi-Cultural Complex, Zunheboto, chaired by Hetoho Y Swu, PD ATMA and DSCO, Zunheboto.
The programme started with an invocation by a farmer’s friend from Akuhaito Block. The program focused on the dissemination of Scheme related information and departmental activities through officials from Department of Agriculture, Department of Soil and Water conservation, Department of Land resources, Department of Fisheries and Aquatic resources, Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, IFAD and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, NU, Lumami.
An active farmer scientist interaction was followed by display of various departmental and ATMA activities.
Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences organized Animal Health Camp and distributed medicines and leaflets to the participants. Various demonstrations on use of maize sheller, preparation of Yellow sticky trap and use of bio-fertilizers were also conducted by ATMA Zunheboto. A total of 74 farmers attended the program.
Wokha: Under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, district Kisan Mela celebration was held on April 26 at Tiyi hall, Wokha, with Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, Governing Board, ATMA, Wokha, Orenthung Lotha as the special guest.
Addressing during the function, the DC said, 58% of Indian population are farmers, and almost 70% to 80% of the Nagaland’s population are farmers and although there are many important sectors where Government can work on. Knowing and realizing the importance of farmers the Government is organising such events to let the farmers know that government if giving much importance to farmers because wherever we eat, consume comes from the produce through the hard work of the farmers.
Deputy Commissioner on behalf of the farmers expressed gratitude to the government and department for organising such events to sensitize and train the farmers, which he opined that such kind of trainings will help farmers boost their economy.
Stating, Wokha is blessed with rich fertile land we do not need chemicals to grow crops, and urged farmers to take up natural and the age old traditional way of farming, using chemicals and fertilizers. The DC also said, under KVK numerous training not only in farming but even animal rearing trainings are imparted and urged the people to take advantage of the services.
Soil and Water Conservation Officer, Wokha Lidemo informed that the department has started the soil testing in a phase manner, where one (1) village is selected from each of the 7 (Seven) Blocks under Wokha district during the first phase and works are almost on the verge of completion after which Soil Health Card (SHC) will be issued to all the farmers. He further informed that in the second phase five villages will be selected from every block to expedite the work and urged all villagers to extend support during this exercise.
In the first and second session PPT of Various schemes and programmes by Agri and Allied departments and Farmers Scientist interaction was done followed by departmental booths visitation. Short speeches were also delivered by District Agriculture Officer, R Santsu Kithan and Sr Scientist and Head I/C KVK-Wokha.
District Horticulture Officer, Wokha Medemshiba chaired the function while vote of thanks was proposed by DPD, ATMA.
Mokokchung: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mokokchung organized Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari Campaign on April 26 at the Kendra’s premises as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The programme started with sharing on overview of the programme by Senior Scientist & Head KVK, Mokokchung followed by telecasting of the programme at New Delhi.
This was followed by sharing on the activities and achievement under various flagship schemes of Government of India by Department Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Soil and ATMA, Mokokchung. Some of the important schemes discussed during the session include Organic and Natural farming, Mission on Integrated Development of Horticulture, Soil Testing and Soil Health Cards, NMSA, NAFCC, Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, National Beekeeping and Honey Mission, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojana, PM Kisan, Kisan Credit Card, Care and management of cocoons etc.
A Farmers Scientist interaction was also conducted where several queries of farmers were promptly answered by the officials from Agri and Allied departments. During the technical session, Bio-fortified crops with special reference to millets and Agromet Advisory Services were delivered to the participating farmers.
Further, a mela was organized wherein promising location specific technologies, seeds, bioproducts, agriculture tools and implements were demonstrated to the farmers. Altogether 72 farmers and 30 government officials attended the programme.
