KISCE Kohima wins Nagaland Open Women football league

Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) Kohima emerged as the champions of the 1st Nagaland Open Women Football League cum Knockout Tournament 2023 played at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima on July 1.

The champions defeated Peren District Women Football Club (PDWFC) 6-0 in the finals. Akhala and Neke netted two goals each for KISCE Kohima while Imlimerenla and Chimmushe added one goal each.

KISCE Kohima received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh along with trophy and certificates while the runners up,  PDWFC were awarded with Rs 70,000.

Semi finalists, Football Association Phek District (FAPD) and Hilly Girls FC received Rs 30,000 each. 5th place Northern Angami Youth & Sports Association- C (NAYSA- C) were awarded with Rs 10,000. The individual winners received Rs 5,000 each.

Earlier in the exhibition match, Youth Resources & Sports XI defeated Nagaland Football Association 2-1. The tournament, which commenced on July 26, was organized by Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland.
 
‘Govt keen to promote talented youths’
Gracing the closing function, Nagaland Youth Resources & Sports, Advisor S Keoshu Yimkhiung thanked Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for his pragmatic vision to uplift the youths of the state without any gender bias. He said that the 1st women football league in Nagaland was just a beginning of the new era of sports transformation in the state. The state government is keen to explore and promote the talented youths by providing avenues in every possible way, Yimkhiung said. Stating that, of all competitions, sports is one as such it requires physical involvements in all categories, the Advisor urged upon all the sports lovers to stay physically strong and healthy.  “Successful persons are those who use the time in the right way,” he said.

Anthony Ngully, Secretary Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland hoped to see more participation in the next edition. Vote of thanks was proposed by Megolhu Dolie, Additional Director Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland while thanksgiving prayer was pronounced by A Libonthung Yanthan, pastor Kohima Lotha Baptist Church.
