Dimapur, July 31 (MExN): Kitenlo K. Thono and Hinokali of Nagaland have secured silver and bronze medals respectively for India at the 9th Asian Pencak Silat Championship 2025 held in Ha Tinh Province, Vietnam, from July 23 to 31.
The two martial artists are the first from the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association to represent India in an international championship under the Indian Pencak Silat Federation, marking what the association described as a “historic milestone.”
Kitenlo K. Thono won the silver medal in the 90-95 kg weight category in the Tanding Event (Match) after an intense final bout against Singapore. Hinokali earned the bronze medal in the under 45 kg weight category in the Tanding Event (Match), following a hard-fought semi-final match, also against Singapore.

“Their outstanding performances have brought international recognition not only to themselves but also to the state of Nagaland,” the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association said in a press release.
Both athletes trained at the Faith in Action Martial Arts Academy at Signal Basti, Dimapur. “They underwent months of focused and disciplined preparation, which played a vital role in their international success,” the release stated.
The medal-winning athletes are scheduled to arrive at Dimapur Airport on August 1 at 10:40 AM. Officials from the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association, along with family, friends, and supporters, will receive and felicitate them on their arrival.
Describing the achievement as “a proud and historic moment for Nagaland and the entire nation,” the Association said the accomplishment would serve as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring athletes across Nagaland and the Northeast.
“Their journey from regional training grounds to the international podium proves that with dedication and the right support, global dreams can be realized,” said Deep Kumar, General Secretary and Head Coach of the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association.
