Kitsubozou community building-cum-car parking was inaugurated today by Er. K. Theunuo, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) at Kitsubozou, Kohima.
Addressing the gathering, Theunuo recollected that when Kohima was declared as a Smart City, people had high hopes that the capital town would develop and see changes but that could not happen because of the limited area based development.
He said that the Union Ministry approved only 285 acres of land to be developed by KSCDL covering seven municipal wards-Midland, Daklane, D.Block, Nagabazaar, Kitsubozou and North Block Keziekie and New Market.
Initially KSCDL had proposed Rs. 1000 crore projects with different infrastructure, clean and sustainable environment for Kohima but it could not be fulfilled because of the 50:50 funding pattern between the Centre and the State government.
But faced with financial problems, the ministry made the funding to 90:10 for all the north eastern and hilly states for which KSCDL changed the projects to Rs 550 crore.
The KSCDL proposed for the multi-utility community building for the seven wards, he said, adding that the five wards have been completed and two are remaining.
The project has different sizes and funds allocated depending on the land available, with Daklane being the smallest and D Block has the biggest, he said.
Kitsubozou Panchayat was given Rs 3.5 crore to construct the building in an area of more than 7000 sq ft, he said while lauding the colony leaders, contractors and KSCDL officials for timely completion of the project.
The new building has car parking on the ground floor, apartments on the first floor and a community hall on the second floor.
‘Take care of the building’
Er. Theiinuo informed that the Community buildings will be managed and operated by the respective colony and ward panchacyats on the basis of revenue sharing till the project cost is recovered.
In this, he appealed to all the leaders of the seven municipalities to take care of the building and do timely maintenance.
Er. Theunuo hoped that the new building would not only provide the basic facilities but bring about unity and cooperation among the leaders and people of Kitsubozou.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Kitsubozou Panchayat finance secretary Aziebou Theyo while Chakhesang Baptist Church Kohima senior pastor Rev. Dr. Kevekhalo Lasuh pronounced dedicatory prayer.
Khriephrenuo Mepfhü-o enthralled the gathering with a special number.
Kitsubozou Panchayat chairman Dzieseneilie Sachü delivered welcome address and while general secretary Atoulie Mechülho proposed vote of thanks.
Newly elected Kitsubozou ward councillor Vimhalie Pienyü, former MLAs Dr Neikiesalie Kire and Medo Yhokha and leaders of different wards and colonies attended the programme.
