The 9th Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) general conference hosted by Longshen Unit was held at Council Hall, Mon from November 8 to 10.
An executive meeting was held on the first day with all the villages, unit and ward KNSK representatives. Nyamjo, Woman Leader, KBCM shared on the topic “Role of woman in the society”.
A cultural programme marked the second day where Minching Yollow was the chief guest. Various units performed cultural items which include rice pounding, pot making, local thread making and colouring, and bamboo dance.
Also gracing the event as chief guest, Chingwang Konyak, former Member of Parliament said there should be no discrimination in education and urged upon the KNSK units to campaign for education of girl child. He said that education is must for all and encouraged the women to be an agent of change. “All women should think, I can change then only the society will go forward. There is nowhere in the history where civil rights are achieved without struggle and fight,” Chingwang stated. He also added that everything will be change, develop and progress only if men and women work together.
The Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Honje Konyak, speaking on the third day of the event urged the gathering to retrospect and upgrade the role as the apex body of the Konyak community. The DC also pointed out that it is the role of KNSK to eradicate early marriage and protect child rights by incorporating and collaborating with central and state schemes for child protection and to give awareness of women and child health.
During the conference, the new KNSK office bearers for the tenure 2018-2020 were elected with B Lomei, Wakching Unit as president; K Mongam, Mon Unit and Y. Moe Bonnie, Wakching Unit as vice presidents, N Yeihlem, Sangnu Unit as general secretary; Y Lamtah, Tobu Unit as finance secretary; Wanshom, Mon Unit as cashier and Dr. Easter, Naginimora unit as press secretary.
