KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 19 (MExN): The 2nd Kohima Inter-Club Cricket Tournament 2024 kicked off today at Sovima Cricket Ground in Chümoukedima, organized by the Kohima District Cricket Association. The day saw exciting matches, with Missionshaire Cricket Club (MCC) and Elite Cricket Club (ECC) securing victories in their respective games.
In the opening match, Missionshaire Cricket Club (MCC) faced off against Dapfhütsümia Cricket Club (DCC). Winning the toss, MCC chose to bat first, posting a total of 157/7 in their allotted 20 overs. The standout performer for MCC was Visanyu Yhome, who scored a solid 59 runs off 49 balls. Dapfhütsümia’s bowlers, particularly Lhousakholie Pienyu, took 3 wickets for 15 runs in 4 overs, and Zhabu Kire, claimed 2 wickets for 14 runs in 2 overs.
In response, Dapfhütsümia Cricket Club was dismissed for 97 runs in 16.4 overs. Ababa was the top scorer for DCC with 31 runs off 31 balls. MCC’s Mughatovi was the star with the ball, claiming 5 wickets for just 19 runs in 4 overs. He won the Man of the Match award.
In the second match of the day, Elite Cricket Club (ECC) won the toss and elected to bat first against Kohima Hornbills. ECC set a target of 136 runs, finishing with 135/8 in their 20 overs. Imomneba top-scored for ECC with 35 runs off 41 balls, while Viketho Kechü contributed 25 runs off 19 balls, and Kelhousielie added 26 runs off 15 balls.
Kohima Hornbills, in their chase, could only manage 92 runs before being bowled out in 17 overs. Sunep was the highest run-scorer for Hornbills with 18 runs off 11 balls. For ECC, Kelhousielie continued his strong performance with the ball, taking 1 wicket for 5 runs in 2 overs. Ruduovotso also contributed with the ball, picking up 2 wickets for 3 runs in 3 overs. Kelhousielie was named Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
