Dimapur/Kohima | July 7

The detection of a COVID-19 positive case at a colony under Ward-7 in Kohima resulted in the sealing of the office of the Commissioner, Nagaland on July 7.

According to official reports, an employee of the canteen at the Commissioner’s office tested positive. Subsequently, the Commissioner’s office was sealed for 48 hours, as per the Standard Operating Procedure.

Head of the Kohima District Task Force, Deputy Commissioner Gregory Thejawelie also wrote to the Chief Secretary today informing of the development, stating, “The District Task Force (DTF) Kohima had an emergency meeting and activated the relevant line departments as per the Incident Response System (IRS), wherein the Containment Zone has been mapped and necessary cordoning of the area/colony in the proximity of the epicenter has been made.”

The person was one of the contacts, under surveillance, linked to one of 3 frontline workers, who tested positive in Kohima recently. The state Nodal Officer for IDSP and COVID-19, Dr Nyan Kikon said that the person was among the primary contacts and had been put under the "high risk category where we put them for testing first."

He ruled out community spread, categorizing it as “local transmission.” Community spread is defined as when there is no known contact or exposure, while in local transmission, possible sources of contacts or exposure can be traced back.

He informed that the patient was admitted to the COVID-19 Hospital and active contact tracing was on. "Contacts will keep on increasing," said Dr Kikon.
