Kohima, October 16 (MExN): The Kohima District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) quarterly meeting was held at DPDB conference Hall on October 15. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and Chairman DDMA, Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie NCS.
A DIPR report stated that the meeting reviewed the last meeting minutes held on April 22 and later deliberated on the following agendas: On monsoon damage reports of line departments, EE, PWD (NH) Kohima Division, Er Vikeshe Yepthomi gave a PowerPoint presentation on landslides occurred at different locations within the last few months. He said the landslides at three different locations near Old KMC dumping area has been restored in two areas and one was in progress for restoration. Necessary widening and restoration work at Khuzama major landslides near Police Check Post were in progress while restoration works at three minor landslides areas, two at Phesama and one at Viswema were carried out for smooth flow of traffic. He also informed that the department has been involved in taking up necessary pavement, restoration works, widening and fresh cutting of road at the affected areas for the flow of traffic.
EE (Power), Er Rokongutuo Suohu briefing on the monsoon damage stated that power supply has been affected in some areas under Kohima division due to power line interruptions occurred at various locations. He also informed that the department has been putting in all efforts to restore and repair the damaged lines and posts and also started jungle clearance activities for preventive measures.
DFO, (Forest), Rongsenlemla Imchen also gave damaged report where the department along with Power department has taken care of the damaged trees and restoration of power line. Mechanical department also updated on the availability of its machineries which may be used in times of emergency.
The house also deliberated on the numerous request letter regarding felling of trees by government departments and its agencies and individuals, groups alike, where the services of SDRF is utilised for execution of such related works. In this regard, the house decided to take up with the Government for clearer directives regarding guidelines for utilisation of SDRF services in order to ease the confusion among the public as well as to protect lives and property of each individual in the interest of the public.
In the meeting, ADC Kohima, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa shared the successful conduct of FAMEX 2019 in the month of February at Dr Neiliezhü Memorial School, Seikhazou and further informed that such exercise will be conducted soon and asked the members and the main departments to be prepared with manpower, equipment, medical facility and other necessary requirements.
On Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEX) 2019, the members were reminded on the NEPEX 2019 exercise with AHOD and HOD table talk exercise on October 24, followed by District Level Table Talk Exercise on November 20 and actual State wide exercise on November 21. The selected departments of the district were also reminded to attend the Table Talk Exercise at ATI on October 24 in person without fail.
In regard to updation of India Disaster Resources Network (IDRN) facilitated by Dr Lorin, District Informatic Officer (DIO), the line departments were requested to provide accurate information and data accordingly as indicated in the given format which is available in the given website within a month.
On formation of Village Disaster Management Authority (VDMA), the Chairman informed that out of 95 recognised villages under the district, ten villages have formed VDMA so far. In this regard, he asked all the administrative officers to initiate the formation of VDMA in their respective areas including Kohima Sadar area in order to have more comprehensive, efficient response during any untoward disasters which may happen.
Reiterating on the proposed formation of Ward Disaster Management Authority/Committee submitted by KMC, the house decided to apprise the Home department on the matter considering it as mandatory in densely populated areas such as the town wards/colony.
