Kohima, July 29 (MExN): The Kohima District Task Force (DTF) on Single-Use Plastics (SUP) convened today at the Deputy Commissioner's Conference Hall, Kohima, to finalize plans for the imminent ban on single-use plastics. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant IAS, outlined the enforcement strategy for the Nagaland government's directive, which takes effect on August 1.
Deputy Commissioner Ramnikant emphasized the critical need for effective implementation to eradicate single-use plastics from Kohima. The DTF has committed to holding quarterly meetings to review the ban's progress and address any challenges.
A formal order detailing the complete prohibition of single-use plastic carry bags and plastic bottles for water and soft drinks under one liter will be issued shortly. This order will include specifics on fines and penalties for non-compliance.
To oversee the ban, the DTF will establish two inspection teams tasked with monitoring and curbing the sale of banned SUP items. The first inspection is scheduled for August 10, 2024. The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) will manage the disposal of any seized items.
Administrative Officers at the Sub-Divisional level will be responsible for enforcing the ban in their respective areas, ensuring district-wide adherence.
Public awareness campaigns will be launched through All India Radio, DDK Kohima, and KMC Kohima, with the DPRO Kohima also utilizing the public address system to inform residents across various colonies and wards in Kohima Town.
