Kohima DPDB meeting focuses on water, waste management

Kohima, August 17 (MExN): Advisor for School Education, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, on Monday called for coordinated inter-departmental action to tackle water supply, waste management, and other pressing urban challenges in Kohima, during the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting held in Kohima.

As pet the DIPR report, Dr Yhome directed the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to submit a detailed report on proposed water-treatment initiatives. He also urged the Urban Affairs and Municipal Affairs departments to ensure preparedness in view of a Supreme Court directive on waste management, noting that plans have already been initiated in areas including Lerie and the landfill site in Kohima, and stressed the need for timely and coordinated implementation.

Referring to Externally Aided Projects (EAPs), the Advisor asked departments to coordinate with their respective Heads of Departments and prepare sectoral outlay details, particularly for solid and liquid waste management in the district, for presentation at the next monthly meeting.

He further called for presentations by relevant agencies on urban development and directed departments handling rural development, urban engineering, and disaster management to conduct a quick survey of major community issues and submit a brief report.

The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Ruopfükuotuo Noudi, NCS, at the DPDB Hall.
