
Our Correspondent Kohima | August 9 The first edition of the Kohima Football League 2017 got underway with United 16 FC and Forerunners' FC playing out a goalless draw in the opener today at the Kohima Local Ground. Both teams had to be content with a point each. Earlier, Kekhrie Yhome graced the inaugural function as the chief guest of the league which is being organised by the Kohima Town Club (KTC). This professional league has been started to promote the game as well as to develop the standard of football. Through KFL, the KTC hopes to provide an opportunity to talented players to find gainful employment and a make successful career in football. “Through this initiative, we also hope to bring up the standard of football to a level that is at par with the rest of the country,” KTC stated. “We hope to restore back Nagaland back to its former glory and find a respectable place in Indian football,” it added. Later, at the press briefing for Thursday's match, both the teams i.e., Khriekesa FC and Addax FC exuded confidence in their respective teams performing well. Media representative of Khriekesa FC addressing the press said the league will give the young players a platform to expose their talents. “We will give our best and hope to give a good fight during the match,” said the Khriekesa FC member. The captain added that the team has been training for two months now. Addax FC team coach expressed hope that the league players will improve and get a chance to represent the state or play for the country in the span of time. We will play our best and we hope we will win; we have the confidence to win three points, the Addax FC coach added. August 10 match Khriekesa FC vs Addax FC @ 3:00 pm
