Various programmes were organised across schools in Kohima, basing on the theme ‘Wildlife Conservation Through Coexistence.’

Kohima, October 8 (MExN): As a part of Wildlife Week celebration 2024, the Kohima Forest Division in collaboration with Nagaland Forest Management Project & KfW observed the Wildlife Week by conducting various programmes across schools in Kohima, basing on the theme ‘Wildlife Conservation Through Coexistence.’
In Trinity School, a drawing competition was organised on October 7, stated a press release received here. In his brief speech, Administrator of the School, Kevin Solo encouraged the students to take active part and also mentioned how their involvement contribute to their learning and the community. During the competition, Thejaser from Class 10 was declared the winner while Keneingulie and Palak Jaiswal from Class 10 and 8 were the second and third winners respectively. The three winners were awarded with gifts along with certificates. In addition, consolation prizes were also given away to the six students. Altogether, 27 students comprising of students from Classes 8, 9 and 10 participated in the drawing competition.

Meanwhile, at Government Middle School T Khel Kohima Village, a painting competition was organised on October 7, for students from Classes 5 to 8. During the competition, Kilungwi of class 7 secured the first position, Larila of Class 8 secured the second position, while Benjongsanla of Class 7 secured the third position. The winners were awarded with cash and certificates. Consolation prizes were also given away to Rangtem of Class 5 and Moshu from Class 6 Altogether, 25 students took part in the painting competition.
At Government High School, Forest Colony, a quiz competition was organised for students of Classes 7 to 9 on October 7. The questions were based on Wildlife and Environment pertaining to certain facts in Nagaland, India and globally on the subject. Students were divided into four groups (A, B, C and D), where Group D (Maiyom Konyak, Jongop, Whangthom Hangsik and Athishu) was declared the winner with Group A (Phongjei Shukha, Vizokhoto Vitso, Chinneihoi Touthang and Wangnam Hakhun) and B (Neha Devi, Langkai, Pangwung Phom and Redetsula) as second and third winners respectively. The Most Valuable Participant, who answered the most of the questions were awarded to Athishu of Class 8. Prizes and citations were awarded to the winners and the participants.

Assistant Headmistress of GHS, Swedesenuo Zao expressed gratitude for organizing the event for the students and mentioned that the students had learned a lot from the competition. She further looked forward for such programmes in the days to come. Altogether, 30 students took part in the competition.
Office of the Range Forest Officer, Kohima Range, Blythe’s Tragopan Conservation and Breeding Centre and Puliebadze Wildlife Sanctuary organised a Nature Walk cum Exposure Visit at Blythe Tragopan Conservation and Breeding Centre, Kohima for students of RDNUMS School Kohima on 8th October 2024. The nature walk was organised with the purpose of sensitizing and creating awareness on the importance of conservation and what every individual can do to contribute towards the cause of conservation.
A quiz competition was also conducted on Wildlife of Nagaland and prizes were given away. Altogether, 67 students along with two teachers participated in the nature walk.
