KOHIMA, JULY 20 (MExN): Collaborating with the District Sports Office, District Education Office, Kohima District Athletic Association, and District Hub for the Empowerment of Women Kohima, the Kohima District Administration organized the Inter-School Athletic Meet from July 20 to 21 under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
The special guest of the inaugural session, Advisor for School Education and SERT, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, said that under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, the government has created many avenues for the girl child. He urged girl students to embrace the given opportunities to the maximum.
Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Shanavas C, IAS, mentioned that, unlike other states, activities meant for girls are limited, especially in the field of sports. Therefore, under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, the District Administration is organizing the inter-school sports meet in collaboration with the line department to create awareness on career opportunities, especially among girl students. Shanavas also encouraged students to be more disciplined and sincere to discover their potential and bring more excellence to themselves and the state as a whole. He requested the students to participate with true sportsmanship spirit.
Dr. Yhome also felicitated girl achievers in the field of sports during the program. The awards were given to Vikono Kezo of Sakhabama Village and Edikunu Rikha of Kidima Village for their exceptional performance and achievements at the Northeast and National Levels. District Education Officer, Emilo Patton, delivered the vote of thanks, and Linoto Katty administered the Oath Taking.
Earlier, Associate Pastor, Lerie Baptist Church Kohima, Atho Sothu, said the invocation, while a special number was presented by Virie. The day’s program was chaired by Kesoneinuo, District Hub for the Empowerment of Women Kohima.
A total of 33 schools, 24 private schools, and 9 government high schools in and around Kohima are participating in the two-day Inter-School Athletic Meet 2023.
