Kohima jail inmates get library

Kohima (mexn): Kohima district jail which houses about 120 inmates, today witnessed a giant wave of jubilation amongst the inmates with the establishment of a library here thanks to Kripa Foundation, Kohima for initiating the library for the jail inmates.

A 21 years old lady inmate told The Morung Express that although she was illiterate she would definitely pick up some books and enjoy the pictures. “Bahut Acha kiya“,  (Well done), said a 44 year old inmate adding that he was looking forward to read Hindi books. In a cheerful mood, this inmate said Kripa Foundation has provided them ‘peace of mind’ on several other occasions. 

“First class,” another inmate commented adding that the library would provide a good “time-pass” to the inmates.  

”We want to read books but we were not in position to get the same”, regretted another and termed the establishment of the library as a giant step. 

He loves reading novel and looks forward to reading many. Another inmate involved in a murder case said that providing daily newspapers in the library would be highly appreciated. 

He added that reference books were also necessary so that the inmates could be able to update their knowledge. “ Moi tu comic bhal lagee” (I like comics), an 18 years old inmate in for a rape case said.

Kripa Foundation Director, Joyce Angami hoped that the library would bring many changes and asked the inmates to make the best use of the facility. Describing every person as “unique” she urged the inmates not to waste their time but to change and improve their lives. 

Jail head mate Dominic said that the library would be an added recreational activity for the inmates. Presently, carom, chess and volleyball are the only recreational activities. 

He thanked the Kripa Foundation for coming forward to help the inmates in many ways and prayed to the Almighty to bless them abundantly.

Khyuchamo Ezung hoped that the inmates would gain vast knowledge from the library and they would contribute well to the society being released from jail.  

Ezung also stated that the library would immensely help those inmates who desire to continue their studies. Abou Mere invited contribution of books from well wishers for the library. 

The library would house books on HIV/AIDS, periodical magazines, text books, daily newspapers, general knowledge, novel, Christian literatures, etc. Meanwhile, media persons are expected to come forward in contributing a good number of books for the library.
