As part of a nation-wide campaign, thousands of women today joined ‘Night Walk’ from TCP Gate junction to Razhü Point, Kohima to popularize and promote women’s safety.

The event was supported by National Commission for Women (NCW) and organized by Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW).

NSCW first chairperson Sano Vamuzo flagged off the 'Night Walk' from TCP Gate.

“We have to love one another starting from the family. We have to love our neighbors. We have to love everyone. We have to love even our enemies,” she said.

NSCW chairperson Khrienuo Tachu said “safety of women 24x7 in public spaces is essential and important for wholesome growth of societies across the world.”

The cases of violence against women have not diminished even in our 21st century. It for this reason, the NCW has directed every state to organize Night Walk today from 7:00 pm onwards in the capital cities of India, she said.

The main objective of the ‘Night Walk’ is to emphasize on creating a safe environment where women can occupy public spaces at any time, to normalize women’s visibility in public spaces, to scale up and reach to a wider audience for women’s safety on the road especially at night and to facilitate a progressive mindset change in the society, in order to eradicate victim and self blaming.

Tachu expressed happiness over the huge turnout at the programme.
