KVSU marks world environment day with exhibition

Kohima Village Students Union (KVSU) observed the 52nd World Environment Day cum exhibition on best innovative models under the theme ‘Ending Plastic Pollution’ at Kohima Village Council on June 5. 

Guest speaker, Thenusou Sekhose Yhome, KMC Councillor, Ward No. 6, D-Block Kohima said that this day reminds us that we only have one Earth and is about understanding how small actions and the decisions we take make a difference for our environment.  

Sekhose while expounding the role of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) emphasised how the Council is making efforts to keep the city clean by working hand in hand with various stakeholders to keep the city clean. 

In this regard, she added that the biggest mission of the KMC is waste management, and they are working on major projects in different areas, putting in great effort to turn garbage into something useful.  

“It is every citizen’s responsibility to dispose of waste properly,” she added and lauded sanitation workers in the sector for being the backbone of the town and called to respect and appreciate their efforts.  

Sekhose said plastic is a huge problem today, and the impact of plastic waste needs urgent attention. “We must say no to single-use plastic and practice reusing and recycling. Everyone must take responsibility for their own waste,” the speaker added. 

She appreciated the KVSU for taking the initiative to conduct the interschool competition on innovative solutions to end plastic pollution. She said that this is a sign that Kohima’s future lies in creative and innovative hands.  

Khedi Baptist Hr Sec School Kohima presented special song.  In commemoration of World Environment Day, an exhibition on Best Innovative Models was held under this year’s theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution,” with the objective of creating models showcasing original, innovative solutions to combat plastic pollution.   Winners of the Competition in Khel Category were Dapfütsumia Students’ Union of Kohima village and Tsütuonuomia Students’ Union of Kohima village in 2nd position .

Under School Category, 1st position was Mount Hermon Higher Secondary School, Kohima and 2nd was Baptist High School, Kohima  
The special guest also donated broom and dustbins to all the schools participants. 

Keneizhalie Mere, Joint Secretary, KVSU, delivered the welcome address and Neingutuonui Noudi, Assistant Catering Secretary, KVSU, pronounced the welcome note.  
Earlier, the programme began with an invocation by Ruokuovituo Robert Rutsa Catechist, Christ the King Church Kohima.
