Kohima Longsa Union celebrates golden jubilee

Special guests, A Nyamnei Konyak and Benei M Lamthiu MLAs, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) S Supongmeren Jamir with others during the Kohima Longsa Senso Telongjem golden jubilee celebration held on May 10.

Kohima, May 10 (MExN): The Kohima Longsa Senso Telongjem (Kohima Longsa Union) celebrated its golden jubilee under the theme ‘towards wider horizons’ at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima on May 10.

A press release received here stated the celebration was graced by Members of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, A Nyamnei Konyak and Benei M Lamthiu, in-laws of Longsa village, as the special guests. In their address, the special guests narrated their association with Longsa village and how they considered themselves to be a part of the village and at the same time they encouraged the people to continue building bridges and re-strengthen old bonds. 

The jubilee programme was also attended by the Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) S Süpongmeren Jamir who gave a short exhortation. Presidents of Kohima Ao Telongjem and Kohima Ongpangkong Telongjem along with the Chairman of the Longsa Village Council also gave short messages.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by the office bearers of the Union and the Jubilee was opened by the Longsa Kaketshir Telongjem (Students) with a song composed specially for the jubilee following a short narration about the Union. A time capsule sealed during the 25th anniversary was also opened at the start of the program with the senior pastor of the Kohima Ao Baptist Arogo, Rev, Sentisashi Aier invoking God’s blessings. The welcome address was delivered by the President of the Union Lanuakum Jamir.

Reminiscing about the Union, Takamanen Jamir gave a brief account about its inception and how the Union has grown over the years. A special song in commemoration of the Jubilee was performed by the Longsa Ao Süngküm Zünga, Kohima. 

The keynote address was delivered by former Chief Secretary, Alemtemshi Jamir on the theme “Towards wider Horizons”. In his speech he emphasized on the importance of how we must go beyond our comfort zones and breach new boundaries with a vision to grow globally. Expounding on the fast moving technological world, he encouraged and called upon the gathering to keep abreast of the changing times and adapting to technology.

Dr S Rongsen Longkumer, Convener of the Resolution committee read out the Jubilee resolution and the vote of thanks was delivered by Merentoshi R. Jamir, Convener of the Jubilee Planning Committee. 

The jubilee concluded with the sealing of a time capsule for the 75th anniversary celebrations followed by a mass prayer.
