Kohima, July 2 (MExN): The annual medical camp under the aegis of IDEAL (IW) Charitable Society was conducted on July 1 at Bright Morning Star Children Home (BMSCH), Kohima.

Dr Zubenthung T Khuvung, MO (Mobile Medical Unit) and Ayangla, Counsellor, Mobile Integrated Counseling & Testing Centre (MICTC) were the resource persons for the day.

Dr Zubenthung spoke on the topic diet and nutrition and its importance. Many people take nutrition deficiencies very lightly. However, if we don't take proper diet and precautions it can lead to various health issues, he added.

Ayangla spoke about HIV & AIDS awareness and the four root causes of HIV & AIDS transmission. She is part of the MICTC, where their team reached out to people in remote areas by giving free medical camp and blood test for HIV and Hepatitis etc. She encouraged the children not to indulge in any sexual intimacy till they are married. Indulging in other substances such as drugs and sharing needles has high chances of getting infected too, she added.

After the formal session, health check up was conducted wherein all the children from home including some neighboring children got blood tested for HIV and Hepatitis.

Earlier, word of acknowledgment and concluding remark was done by Alenuo Angani, Superintendent BMSCH.

Watisenla chaired the programme while special number was presented by BMS children.

The annual medical camp was an initiative of IDEAL (IW) Charitable Society to reach out destitute and orphans and give them free medical check-up.
