Kohima, May 13 (MExN): A man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting two women, including a minor, at their residence in Kisama, Kohima police said on Wednesday.
The alleged accused, identified as Seyienei-u (28), a resident of Phesama village, has been arrested and placed in police remand, PRO Kohima Police said in a press release.
According to the complaint lodged at the Women Police Station, the incident occurred on May 12 evening at around 7:30 PM when the unknown person allegedly entered the residence of two female victims at Kisama. As per the complaint, the individual assaulted the victims while they were having dinner and attempted to commit rape upon them.
One of the victims sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to Bethel Hospital for treatment.
A case has been registered under Sections 62, 74, 76, and 117(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, police said.
The matter is under active investigation, and necessary legal action will be taken as per law. The public is requested to cooperate with the police and refrain from spreading unverified information, the police added.
Dumper runs over biker in Jakhama; driver held
In a separate incident, a motorcyclist was killed after being run over by a dumper truck at Jakhama village early Wednesday morning, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Viboto Hibo (30), a resident of Viswema village, Z Khel.
Telephonic information about the accident was received at around 7:20 AM, following which police intercepted the suspected dumper truck at the PHQ point. The driver of the vehicle has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
Further investigation into the matter is underway and legal proceedings will follow as per law, police said.
