Kohima, May 18 (MExN): In the run-up to the parliamentary bye-elections, the Kohima Police have been “actively monitoring crime and illegal activities” to ensure conducive atmosphere for free and fair electioneering in the district. To this end, Kohima Police have detected a number of crimes, stated a press release from PRO, Kohima Police.
It informed that on May 18, police personnel manning Peducha Police Check Gate intercepted stolen motorbike acting on information from Chumukedima Police Station regarding theft of a Royal Enfield bike from its jurisdiction. In this regard, two persons identified as M Chenithung Tongoe and Zachamo Murry were apprehended. The two along with the seized motor bike were handed over to Chumukedima Police personnel.
On May 17 around 2:30 pm, duty personnel manning Peducha Police Check Gate recovered 19 cases of MC Rum and six cases of beer from a vehicle bearing Reg. No. WB 26C 3357 (Maruti 800). The occupants of the vehicle, Yeketo A. Awomi and Husheto Awomi, were apprehended and a case has been registered, the release stated.
On the same day, the Mobile Unit (MU) of Kohima Police, while conducting surprise checking of vehicles at Peducha area (10th Mile road), stopped a vehicle (NL02 C-2957) loaded with liquor, according to the press release. 16 cases of MC Rum and 3 cases of beer were recovered from the possession of Tokaho and Gkto, it said. The two were arrested and a case has been registered at Sechu Zubza PS.
Meanwhile, on May 16 around 8:30 pm, personnel of North PS Kohima conducted a surprise raid of shops and residences in and around Assembly Secretariat and seized 496 bottles of assorted IMFL, the release added.
