Vehicle had ‘BSF Duty’ marking; driver arrested
Kohima, September 29 (MExN): Amid intensified enforcement against illicit liquor across Nagaland following a spate of suspected spurious-liquor deaths, Kohima Police intercepted a transport carrier bearing a “BSF Duty” windshield marking, within Zubza Police Station jurisdiction, seizing 7,740 bottles of illegal Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth approximately Rs 50 lakh.
According to the Additional Superintendent of Police & PRO, Kohima Police, the consignment was intercepted at around 2:35 pm from a transport carrier.
Upon checking the vehicle and verifying its contents, the police team found it loaded with 7,740 bottles of IMFL, each of 750 ml capacity, with an estimated value of approximately Rs 50 lakh, the PRO informed in a press release.
The driver has been taken into custody, and a detailed investigation is underway to trace the source of the consignment and identify the supplier, owner and intended buyer, the police said.
Police further said that during the checking, they also found a “BSF Duty” marking placed on the windshield of the vehicle, apparently to create a misleading impression and evade suspicion during police checking. The marking is being examined “as part of the investigation to establish the modus operandi adopted for transporting the illegal consignment.”
Further details will be shared as the investigation progresses, the police added.
