Kohima: A debate competition for the Kohima police personnel was held today at the Superintendent Police office’s Conference hall. The competition was held in view of the proposal made by the National Human Rights Commission for Human Rights literacy among the state police force to promote Human Rights awareness and sensitization among the State police personnel.
The debate competition held was organized by the District Police, Kohima under the aegis of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The topic was on “Human Rights Compromise National Security” where 5 of them contested for the motion and 4 against the motion.
As per the criteria two from each bench, Lima Longkumer- Dy. S.P (P), Jenmei Konyak- S.I (for the motion), Longpoksang Lempur- Dy. S.P (P) and Peter Shuya- S.I (against the motion) were selected for Kohima District. Other District ranges would also select the same, where they would all enter the range level where the winners would then compete at the State level.
The said Range level would be held on 30 January where the competition would be held at their respective ranges. The State level competition would be held on February 4.
The penal of juries for today’s debate were P.S Meren, Additional S.P, Kohima, Kathu Rengma, Additional P.P, Kohima and Theja Therie, Social Activist.
Talking to The Morung Express, Vekhosa Kotso, SDPO stated that this sort of competition was a good way to sensitize the Police personnel who in the process would also learn, as well as creating an eye opener in educating the public who at times fail to understand their task. “Striking a balance between duty and human Rights” is what the competition was all about. The SDPO also informed that the National level competition was yet to be notified.
