KOHIMA, March 28 (MExN): The Kohima Press Club (KPC) Election Commission on Saturday formally announced the new executive council for the tenure 2026-2029, with Vishü Rita Krocha of The Morung Express taking over as President.
The declaration ceremony, held at the KPC Office, saw the new team being introduced, which includes Vincent Belho (DDK) as Vice President, Seyiekietuo Keretsü (Nagaland Post) as General Secretary, Nzanbemo Khuvung (Freelancer) as Joint Secretary, and Reyivolu Rhakho (Eastern Mirror) as Treasurer.
Election Commissioner Chizokho Vero informed that the commission had received five nominations for the various posts. “After the conduct of scrutiny of the nomination papers, the Election Commission found all the documents valid,” he said, adding that since there was no opponent against each post, all five candidates were elected unopposed. The Election Commission also comprised Atou Liezietsu and Wapangsungla Longkumer as members.
In her address, President-elect Vishü Rita Krocha expressed gratitude to the club members for their trust and confidence. She acknowledged the contributions of outgoing president Alice Yhoshü, stating that the club's present success would not have been possible without her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment towards its welfare.
“She has laid a remarkably strong foundation, which has set a standard for excellence for all the members and set an example of strength and resilience,” Krocha said, expressing hope to build upon that legacy with the same commitment and energy.
“It is my firm belief that together we will continue to build upon the trailblazing legacy of our outgoing president, and strive to keep alive all the wonderful initiatives that have taken shape during her time,” she added. Krocha affirmed that she would endeavour to represent the best interests of the KPC.
Outgoing president Alice Yhoshū, reflecting on her tenure, said that over the last decade, the Kohima Press Club had become more than a professional organisation for her, describing it as a family and a second home.
Having served the Press Club for 12 years, first as General Secretary and then as President, she noted that each member had contributed significantly to her journey. “Together, we celebrated victories, learned from setbacks, and, most importantly, grown as a fraternity,” she said.
Recalling her fellow executive council members, she said, “Your dedication, resilience and leadership have not only driven the Kohima Press Club to excellence but have also inspired me to strive for the best in every endeavour.”
As the torch is passed to the new team, Yhoshū expressed her delight that Krocha, whom she had succeeded as general secretary 12 years ago, was taking over as President. “She is not a new name, but someone with a profound and established personality in the media,” Yhoshū remarked, assuring the incoming team of support and assistance.
“Leaders may change, but the spirit of Kohima Press Club endures. The Club is in good hands. Here's to the next chapter, and to all of you who make it shine!” she said.
