Kohima Science College undergo renovations

• UGC funds Leone (Girl) Hostel Phase-II project

• Alumni 1996 passed out batch repairs basketball court

Kohima, November 11 (MExN): Under the funding of University Grants Commission (UGC) Scheme 2015-2017, Leone (Girl) Hostel Phase-II at Kohima Science College Jotsoma (KSCJ) campus was inaugurated on November 11.  

Leone (Girl) Hostel Phase-II, a two storied building with the accommodation capacity of 37 students constructed with a budget cost 70 lakh was inaugurated by former KSCJ Principal and present Additional Director of Higher Education, Dr. I. Anungla Aier at the Leone Hostel campus.  

Earlier, Dr. Anungla also inaugurated the renovated basketball court, which was funded by the KSCJ Alumni 1996 passed out batch at the cost of 4.5 lakh some 20 meters away from the newly constructed hostel.  

Speaking at the formal ceremony, Dr. Anungla said that the two new assets were added to the College through the efforts of the teaching faculties, staffs, students, alumni and well wishers. She also appreciated the building committee members comprising of Dr. Limatemjem, Assistnat Professor, department of Zoology and Selie Puro, Assistant Professor, department of Geography. She also appreciated the yeomen service of Alumni 1996 passed out batch who generously contributed towards the renovation of the basketball court.  

Women Hostel Construction committee, Dr. Limatemjem, while giving a brief report informed that the UGC funded scheme was estimated at the cost of 1.28 lakh, out of which 78 lakh was to be funded by the UGC, and the remaining costs to be funded by the state Government share.  

However, the committee report stated that, “with no positive expectation from the state Government share, the college authority had sought that the entire construction scheme be funded by the UGC, where a fresh estimated was submitted to the UGC and in the end, the construction was completed with an amount of 70 lakh. The construction started on 16 June 2015 and completed with an approximate duration of 2 years and 5 months.”  

In a separate report given by the Alumni 1996 passed out batch on the basketball court renovation, Alumni Moatemsu, Jio Centre Manager, Kohima reported that the initial estimated cost budget was aimed at 2 lakh where floor renovated thickness was aimed with 2 inches. However, the floor thickness was renovated with 5 inches during the course of renovation where the final budget went up to 4.5 lakh in its final completion. As per the report, the funding process was made through sold of concepts, free will donation from the Alumni friends circle and well wishers.  

The renovation started in May 2016 and it completed recently within the duration of 1 year 6 months.  

Earlier, Selie Puro led the formal inauguration ceremony, President, EU, KSCJ, Sehuto Kezo invoke God’s blessing, short speech was delivered by Dr. Lily Sema, Principal, KSCJ and dedicatory prayer was performed by Er. Khoto Zetsuvi, Chairman, Campus Christian Fellowship (CCF) followed by refreshment.
