Kohima: Supply Colony road and NHAK-Tinpati bypass blocked off

Morung Express News Kohima | July 31   The PR Hill Lower-II Supply Colony road that connects to Raj Bhavan-Paramedical-Dimapur was blocked on Tuesday afternoon with a major part of the road sunk. The road is situated near St. Peter's High School.   "The road had been gradually sinking the past few days with the heavy rainfall and vehicular movement," informed Kerihosa Natso, President of the colony youth organisation adding that the road has been blocked for vehicles. However pedestrians are allowed to travel.   Colony residents today cleared the river beds, attached bamboos in the affected area, and reconstructed the culvert which was however washed away by rain.   3-4 buildings are at risk of collapsing in the area, thereby endangering other houses here, Natso said. It was informed that the colony had written a report to the Kohima DC last year, who directed the issue to the PWD and surveys were conducted but no preventive measures taken.   Meanwhile, the NHAK-Tinpatti bypass road, one of the leading roads of Kohima town was also completely cut off on Tuesday morning.   The retaining wall suffered damage with major depression appearing on the road, which is one of the major lifelines of the capital leading to Naga Hospital Authority Kohima and to Secretariat. Pukhato Achumi, Head GB of Daklane Colony cautioned that if immediate restoration is not done, the situation may worsen and adjoining building may collapse.   Meanwhile, two government quarters in Naga Hospital Colony were damaged after a retaining wall collapsed on them. Cracks have also appeared on 12 houses in the adjoining areas, with residents being evacuated. According to colony residents, more than 25 families have already been affected, however no casualties were reported.
