KOHIMA, JULY 20 (MExN): The Kohima District Administration, in collaboration with SANKALP – District Hub for Empowerment of Women, is set to launch a focused enrolment drive under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), a centrally sponsored maternity benefit scheme aimed at supporting pregnant women and lactating mothers. The initiative is part of the ongoing Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign.
The PMMVY scheme provides financial assistance to improve maternal health and nutrition outcomes. Eligible women are entitled to a cash incentive of Rs 5,000 for the first live birth, irrespective of the child’s gender. Additionally, Rs 6,000 will be provided for the second birth if it is a girl child. The benefits are transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. The scheme is applicable to all Scheduled Tribe (ST) women, excluding those in regular government service.
To facilitate easy access, the district administration has made provisions for on-the-spot Aadhaar enrolment and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) account opening at each enrolment venue. The drive will commence at the Council Hall in Kezoma Village under Kezocha Block on Monday, July 21, from 10 AM. It will continue at the Panchayat Hall in Viswema Village under Jakhama Block on Tuesday, July 22, and conclude at the CDPO Office in Chiephobozou Town on Friday, July 25, all beginning from 10 AM onwards.
The administration has called upon all Village Councils to disseminate the schedule widely and mobilise eligible pregnant women and lactating mothers to attend the drive with the necessary documents. Officials noted that this drive is vital in ensuring that women in rural and semi-urban areas are able to fully avail the benefits of PMMVY and access timely financial support.
