DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 6 (MExN): “Out of the utter frustration of lawlessness in Kohima and the unsatisfactory responses by the government machinery, especially in curbing the theft of vehicles, where theft of two vehicles per week was recorded, the KVYO (QRT) took remedial steps”, informed a late night press note issued by Vilhouzhalie Dzüvichü Chairman, Kohima Village Council.
According to the Kohima Village Council, Late Kivika was caught red handed by the QRT with a stolen bike in the early hours of 31st August 2012. Two other accomplices escaped under the cover of darkness. The press note however expressed deep regret on the death of late Kivika while he was under the custody of KVYO at their KVYO office which is attached to the village council hall.
“Following our tradition that a dead person cannot defend himself, we the Kohima village council do not justify ourselves or blame the deceased any further at this moment of grief, but request the public to understand that the 31st August incidence was not a case between Sumis and Angamis, but between Kohima village and Kheltomi village, and that the matter has been settled between the bereaved family and Kohima village through the initiative of the Kohima Sumi Hoho”, the press note stated.
The Kohima Village Council further expressed its regret for the escalation of violence to other places following the 31st August incidence and questioned as to “what future will hold for the Nagas if a problem between two villages could escalate into the violence of two major Naga tribes”.
In conclusion the Kohima Village Council expressed its gratefulness to the Kheltomi Village Council and the relatives of the bereaved family for standing firm and honoring the decision of the 2nd September 2012 between the Kohima Sumi Hoho and the Kohima Village Council.
