The Konyak community of Kohima celebrated Lao-Ong Mo with much zest and traditional gaiety at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama on September 28.
It was organized by Konyak Union Kohima (KUK).
The festival was marked by cultural presentations from Mon Circle Union Kohima, Chen Area Union Kohima, Wakching Area Union Kohima, KNSK Kohima Unit and blowing of trumpet from Honka.
Gracing the festival, MLA CL John said that during forefather’s time, Lao-Ong-Mo use to be celebrated as a mark of winding up of all harvest activities. He called upon the Konyak community to continue preserving their rich traditions and cultures.
B. Tingshem, Retd director school education Nagaland highlighted the significance of the festival.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by KUK president Dr.Phola.
The function was chaired by KUK general secretary Khongjah while vote of thanks was proposed by Lao-Ong Mo Committee 2019 convenor M. Yashei.
The festival concluded with a grand community feast.
Lao-Ong signifies the winding up of all harvest activities, norms and rituals which were practiced or adhered by every household. In fact, Lao-ong Mo marks the culmination of the entire activities that had been carried out right after the Aoleang Monyu celebration.
Lao-Ong Mo is also known as the Post harvest festival or the Annual harvest festival during which, the offerings are being made unto the divine spirit by expressing out the indebtedness over a bountiful blessings that is being bestowed upon. Lao-ong Mo is celebrated to mark its abundant harvest and thanksgiving. This festival is also celebrated with immense joy of liberating. It also unites the spirit & minds of every family member with utmost affection and social integrity.
