The 41st Annual General Conference 2024 of the Konyak Students’ Union Kohima (KSUK) took place today at Moluki Hall, Kohima with Wangpang Konyak, Advisor, Social Welfare, Government of Nagaland as the special guest.
Addressing the conference, Wangpang commended the past and the present members for successful completion of 41 long years of dedicated service not only towards the welfare of the students' community but for the Konyak community as a whole in Kohima. “To produce well-educated and ideal leaders, we need quality education,” the Advisor said and maintained that higher education has immensely improved in recent years in Nagaland.
Stating that most of the colleges and institutions provide the best curriculum and teachers/professors to impart quality education to the students, he said “The only thing require from you is to learn and not only study.”
Talking on competitive world in every sphere, the Advisor said that only degrees and high qualifications is not at all enough. In this, he stressed on the need to equip with various skills.
He informed that the government has been taking initiative to impart skill oriented trainings like mobile repairing, drone technology, digital applications etc. Skilling is the top most important to be employed, he said adding that skilling, re-skilling and up-skilling are key components of the strategy to tackle huge problem of unemployment and under employment. He said that unemployment rate has been increasing, emphasizing the need for skill development.
“As long as you possess a skill set, you will always be an asset to the society,” he said.
Skills can be plumbing ,weaving, sewing, electrician, cooking, hospitality, managing, mechanical, graphic designing, music, art, sports etc, he said adding that students can take up for skill training courses during the summer and winter breaks.
“One of the most notable demands on the rise is creative writing and content writing,” he said adding that with the phenomenon usages of the social media and digital marketing, creative writers are on high demand.
‘Be presentable’
Taking on personality development, the Advisor said “We can improve ourselves in the way we think, act, behave, dress and even the way we look. We can work on to improve on our presentation, speaking, mannerism, politeness etc.”
Asking the students to be presentable, he said that if they possess acceptable personality, then they will gain confidence, positive mind and approach to go through any obstacle.
To the Konyak students, he said “The world is waiting for you to make your mark and I have no doubt that you all will leave lasting legacy.” May your journey be filled with success, happiness and prosperity, he added.
Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) President Temwang Angh and Hamtok Konyak, RDO, Rural Development also exhorted the gathering. Earlier, KSUK President M Honli Konyak delivered the welcome address while Rev Nahngom, pastor KBBK prayed for students. Pongnyu H, Associate Pastor (Women) KBBK invoked God’s blessings. Konyak students from Japfü Christian College and MP Moijem Konyak presented special numbers.
