Kripa foundation opens centre for addicts

DIMAPUR, FEB 27 (MExN): Kripa Foundation in its endeavor to tackle the drug menace in Nagaland inaugurated a centre called “The Bridge” at D’ Block, (Below Catholic Publication Center) Kohima on Feb 26 with Gary Lewis, Representative UNODC ROSA as the Chief Guest and was accompanied by Dr. Joyce, Project Officer, UNODC, Shillong. The function was chaired by Dr. P. Ngully, Director, Kripa Foundation.

Gary Lewis in his speech expressed his concern over the high rate of abuse at gateway of drugs by children. He pointed out that it is imperative to have a good and open communication between parents and children which unfortunately is lacking and therefore must be encouraged and developed.

He also expressed his optimism for a positive response once the centre is opened to children and that the service will really “bridge the gap between a distressed child and a disturbed parent”.

The function also included sharing of experiences by a co-addict (family member of a drug user) and a schoolteacher, where certain issues about adolescents and children relating to drug abuse were pointed out. They both ascertained that the center is an answer to the need of the hour and had extended their support to the concept of ‘The Bridge’.

Fr. Neisalhou Carlos concluded the function by sharing from the word of God and blessed the Programme with a prayer.

According to the press note, the concept behind “The Bridge” is to offer professional help for both children, adults and also for family, parents in distress and especially for children who are in the gateway drugs like tobacco, gutka (eg Talab), scented supari, and sniffing of inhalants (eg, dendrite, petrol).
