KSU blames absent staff & School Edu Dept for ‘paralyzing schools’ in Mon

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 4 (MExN): Following the ‘Education Wheel Tour’ conducted by the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU), the union equally blamed both absent staff as well as the Department of School Education for being “equally responsible in paralyzing the schools and producing poor results every year.”

A press release from the KSU said that during the verification, it found that most of the teachers (CSS Hindi and SSA Samagraha) within the district are yet to receive their salaries for more than 3 months. The union questioned the department how the unpaid teachers would be motivated to produce the best in students.

It further expressed concern that most of the schools in Mon district are understaffed. The union said that the staffing pattern as issued by the concerned authority’s notification should be implemented at the earliest for the smooth functioning of the schools.

“Mon District needs 311 Primary Teachers at 141 GPS, 103 Graduates Teachers in 62 Middle Schools and 80 Teachers at 18 Government High Schools as per staffing pattern. While most of the GMSs lack subject teachers, 15 High Schools under Mon District are functioning without Head Master and Asst Head Master,” it informed.

The union further express displeasure over the appointment of teachers as BLOs.  It demanded de-attachment of teachers as BLOs and to appoint the adequate teachers.

It meanwhile informed that some of the villages namely Yeangmei Village, Tangkhao Village, Tammong Village, Longchang Hongnyu which were officially recognised in 2017, 2014, 2017, 2017 respectively under Mon District are yet to get government schools. The union demanded immediate establishment of 4 new GPSs in the 4 villages.

It further urged all government teachers to be present at their respective posting place. The union directed its federating units and the VECs to work proactively “for the welfare of the Konyak community especially in the field of education.”

The KSU meanwhile said that it “envision to increase the literacy rate at par with the state and national average,” and plans to start 10 intensive coaching centers for 18 high schools, especially for Math and Science for the period months of December and January.
