KSU: Cannot empower students without empowering teachers

MON, OCTOBER 6 (MExN): The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has extended solidarity to the cause of aggrieved ad hoc teachers in the state. “The Union (KSU) stands in support and solidarity with the aggrieved ADHOC Teachers whose rights have been denied without any justifiable basis,” stated the KSU in a press release issued on October 6.

According to it, the School Education Department has a tendency to drag itself. On the same breath, it added that the state government has no qualms about harassing teachers, while other states are striving to impart world class and quality education. As a result, it said that the students have been bearing “the brunt of misuse and abuse of power and authority by the government and the concerned department for decades.” It further wondered as to how the government seeks to empower students without empowering the teachers.

While maintaining that the government has no legitimate grounds for denying and delaying the demands of the aggrieved ad hoc teachers, it called for resolving the matter with utmost priority and in the process, dignifying the teaching profession.
