KSU condemns rape; warns against circulating false info on social media

Mon, June 2 (MExN): The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has condemned the “inhuman and barbaric rape” of a minor girl in Mon Town, who it alleged was “sexually assaulted and forcefully raped on several occasions.”  

The union in a statement appealed to the concerned law enforcing authority to award exemplary punishment to the accused as per the law without delay. It further prayed for speedy recovery of the victim.  

Meanwhile, the statement from KSU president, Bumang Phaiba and general secretary, Phoe Konyak warned all to refrain from circulating false information and propaganda with regard to the sensitive issue on social media. It appealed all “not to believe in such false propaganda and inauthentic information that are viral on social media so as to avoid any untoward issues in the near future.”  

WASU demands ‘befitting punishment’ for accused

In a separate statement, the Wakching Area Students’ Union (WASU) expressed shock and anguish at the incident. WASU President Chinge M Konyak and General Secretary Wejai Konyak appealed to the law enforcing agencies to award befitting punishment to the accused. The union further reminded the authorities that “actions and not words” are necessary to stop recurrence of such incident in future.
