KSU demand urgent cure for ailing Mon Civil Hospital

Dimapur, August 11 (MExN): The Konyak Students Union (KSU) has asked the state government to intervene and redress the various difficulties being faced by the Mon Civil Hospital, from shortage of medical manpower to lack of basic facilities, on or before August 31. Failure to comply with the demand would invite an own course of action from the union for which the government would be held solely responsible for any eventuality, the KSU warned.

The KSU took serious note of the various difficulties being faced by the Civil Hospital Mon and highlighted the same to the Minister of Health as well as the department concern. According to KSU’s General Secretary T Khongjah Loungs in the representation submitted to the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, the KSU asked that an Anesthetist, an ENT Specialist, a Child Specialist and a Medicine Specialist be appointed for the hospital. Also it was requested that aprons for technicians, Filon badges, Abdomen grids, with 12 x 15 grid fixed     cassettes and 12x12 cassettes be provided.

According to the KSU, Mon Civil Hospital was constructed as a 50 bedded hospital in the early 70s. However, manpower strength allotted was only for 25 beds. “Problems starting from shortage of doctors and nurses, to low supply of medicine or no supply or medicine items, lack of basic machineries are innumerable. Being the only hospital in the district, the general public and students’ body has appealed for up gradation to a 100-bedded hospital along with the appointment of manpower strength” the KSU stated.

The union expressed unhappiness that out of eight doctors including the Medical Superintendent, there is only a single doctor seeing to patients’ needs for the past five to six months. It was informed that a request to the Assistant Medical Director to release doctors on leave was made. “But to our great dismay, it is learnt that two doctors are on the process of transfer without any reliever. The KSU has taken serious note on the government’s lack of interest towards the Civil Hospital Mon and once appeal to the authority concern to seriously take up the matter and do the needful before August 31” it was stated. The KSU warned that in the event the government and the department concern fails to intervene within the stipulated time, the union would be compelled to take up its own course of action for which the government would be held solely responsible.
