Tuensang, November 6 (MExN): The Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) has expressed dismay over the delay in completing various important road projects sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase VIII under its jurisdiction. In a press release, the KSU President and General Secretary, stated that inspite of regular review meetings and undertakings signed between the concerned departments and contractors, “respective contractors has failed to adhere and uphold the undertaking on time.” It, therefore, has asked the concerned contractors to resume work before November 14. With reference to a letter dated back to August 30, 2018 on a review meeting in regard to the incomplete PMGSY Phase VIII projects held on June 25 2018, it mentioned that the amounts for the projects were sanctioned in 2012. The Union stated that for the Noklak Sanglao Rd to Kingnyu New connectivity (stage-II) (PMGSY)-10 km, a total amount of Rs. 370. 20 Lakhs was sanctioned for the project on February 22, 2012 and subsequently, Nokhu to Choklangan, (35 Km) road project amounting to Rs.1286.44 lakhs was also sanctioned on the same day and Rs. 1981 for Thoktsur-Pang and Chipur (55km) Stage-II-PMGSY. An amount of Rs.1231.91 for Thonok Sanglao to Kengjong (Stage-II)-(PMGSY) (36.69 Km) was also sanctioned on March 29 2012, it said. “The Khiamniungan Students’ Union is disappointed on the above projects’ progress for delaying to execute and completion in a stipulated period of time despite for maintenance to improve the quality of road,” the union expressed. Further observing the subsequent failure to complete project on time, it has urged all the concerned contractors to resume the work before November 14. “We assure to extend full co-operation for the success of the project,” it added.
