MON: The Konyak Union has inquired as to how the Chief Minister’s sanctioned relief fund has not reached the most affected poor farmers. The KU has, through a press release issued by its Vice President Naowang Konyak, reminded of the meeting which it had held with Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on August 2004. A bundle of papers and verification documents relating to the destruction of Lapa Lamong and Tukum paddy fields at Tizit sub-division by a herd of wild elephants and victimizing at least 67 farmers was tabled before the Chief Minister, according to the release.

The KU has further stated that Rio had forwarded the case to the Deputy Commissioner, Mon and had also inscribed the words, ‘consider the case on top priority’ on the papers relating to the case. However, no relief of the sort has been extended thus far, claims the KU.

In this regard, the KU has questioned as to how the instruction of the Chief Minister was not adhered to. The KU has put the Deputy Commissioner answerable to this issue. It has also sought to know from the State government as to why the said fund had not been released for Mon district. The KU did not rule out the possibility of the funds being misused.
