
KOHIMA, Oct 2 (MExN): Noted musician Kughaho Chishi was conferred with the prestigious Classic Award 2005 here today in recognition of his meritorious achievement and contributions in the field of music.
Accepting the award carrying a citation and a cash prize of Rs 10,000, Chishi said that he would work harder and contribute more towards society and pointed out that the award had opened up a new chapter for him to work much harder.
Kughaho regretted that Naga music was fast fading and emphasized the need to do research work before it completely vanishes. Chishi plans to make traditional music acceptable at the international stage. He also urged the state government to take more initiative to tap the pool of Naga musical talent while suggesting that music be introduced in schools.
Parliamentary Secretary Y. Hewoto Awomi who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest encouraged the recipient to keep up his talent and skills and to set an example to the younger generations of Nagas.
Hewoto also lauded the Classic Club for doing commendable work and urged them to grow in strength. He donated Rs 1 lakh towards the Club’s fund. Earlier, Club President K. Neibou Sekhose delivered the Presidential address.
It may be mentioned that Kughaho CHishi belongs to Lokobomi village. He did his elementary education at St Peter and St John school Shillong. He continued his high school education at Government High School, Mokokchung and passed out in the year 1983. Chishi has completed his diploma in Music at Western Music Academy, Bangalore in 1986. Later he got his Bachelor’s degree in Church Music from Asian Institute for Liturgy and Music, Manila, Philippines in 1994 going on to acquire his Master’s Degree in Church Music under the same institution during 1996-99.
Chishi has also been conferred the Governor’s Award 2005 for his outstanding contributions in the field of music. Married to Tosheni and blessed with twin boys and a girl, Chishi is currently serving as a lecturer in music at Patkai Christian College, Dimapur.
