Kumlong citizens prepare for 50th anniversary

Mokokchung, September 29 (MExN): As a prelude to the grand golden jubilee celebration of Kumlong Ward, Mokokchung, a massive cleanliness drive was undertaken in the colony on September 28.

The citizens of the colony initiated by the Golden Jubilee Planning Committee, the ward council and supported by the Kumlong Environment Committee and the Kumlong Lanur Telongjem (Kumlong Youth Union) actively cleaned the whole colony.

A press release from Kumlong Ward, Golden Jubilee Planning Committee (GJPC) stated that the citizens also cleared the footpaths to ancient ‘Kumlong’ rock, which is located about a kilometer downhill from the Kumlong inhibition.

The ward, which is one of the oldest colonies in Mokokchung town, has undertaken the preservation of environment as one of its priority to address as it celebrates the golden jubilee.

During the three year planning programme under the convenorship of C Tia Longkumer (golden jubilee planning committee), the colony has invested thoroughly on environmental conservation, preservation and biodiversity.

The Chairman of the Kumong Ward Council, Lanu Imchen, expressed gratitude to all those who partook in the cleanliness programmes and expressed his hope that the citizens of Kumlong would forever be united and work for progress in the days to come.

Convenor of the GJPC Longkumer also acknowledged all who partook at the programme and also to the Kumlong Environment Committee, the Kumlong Lanur Telongjem and others for their help in making the Kumlong colony a model ward in the town.

The owner of the land where the ‘historical ‘Kumlong Rock’ is seated, was also present at the programme. The grand golden jubilee prgramme which will be held on October 8 will be graced by Minister for Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir as the special guest.
