KVK NU celebrates Mahila Kisan Diwas

Zunheboto, October 16 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Zunheboto, Nagaland University conducted a daylong programme on Mahila Kisan Diwas on October 16 at KVK, Lumami.  

Sr. Scientist and Head Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia in his welcome address emphasised on the importance of women in agriculture and how women empowerment can play a vital role in the development of women and their families. Women play a crucial role in the family and their development, he stated, according to a press release.  

He also illustrated on the challenges and opportunity in agriculture and how to overcome them to improve productivity of crops and animals. Dr. Rakesh further called upon the SHGs to give their best and follow the formula of Lijjat Papad SHGs which is famous worldwide.  

SBI Lumami branch manager S.K. Mondal attended the programme along with the scientific staffs of KVK. Farmers Scientist interaction was also held to discuss the important issues related to women empowerment.  

Extempore speech and drawing competition on role of women in agriculture was conducted by the KVK, where 50 women farmers of 9 SHGs from 5 villages took part in the programme. Awards were given to the best three participants.
