Lumami, July 30 (MExN): The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Zunheboto, under the aegis of Nagaland University and ATARI-Zone-VII, celebrated its 50th anniversary at its campus in Lumami.

The event commenced with Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Principal Scientist & Head, elucidating the mandate and activities of KVKs in India since their inception in 1974 at Puducherry. He underscored the pivotal role of KVK Zunheboto in empowering local farmers and bridging the gap between research and extension services. Dr. Chaurasia called on farmers to collaborate to enhance crop and animal productivity, aiming for self-sufficiency. He emphasized that the torch symbolized the transfer of knowledge, enlightenment, and a commitment to agricultural development.

Dr. Abemo, Registrar of Nagaland University, lauded the KVK fraternity for their significant contributions to agricultural development and urged continued collaboration between farmers and KVKs to improve the socio-economic conditions of the farming community.

In observance of the Golden Jubilee, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) initiated a torch rally, "Torch Prayan," which will culminate at the ICAR-KVK Golden Jubilee conference 2024 in New Delhi. As part of this rally, the torch was received from KVK Tuensang and handed over to KVK Mon by Dr. Abemo.

The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Visakho Shunyu, Chief Technical Officer (GPB & Agronomy).
