KTC, KNM & PPO flay firing incident at Pangsha
Noklak, August 17 (MExN): The Pangsha Public Organisation (PPO), Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam (KMH), and the Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) have condemned the firing incident between the Assam Rifles and suspected cadres of the Nyemlang-led NSCN (K) at International Trade Centre (ITC) Dan, Pangsha on August 15.
Condemning the incident, the KTC said that the incident has created fear psychosis and put the lives of innocent people at risk.
In a statement on Monday, the KTC also asserted that “The land of Khiamniungan is not a battleground,” and pointed out that the Khiamniungan people both within India and Myanmar, “had suffered a lot for the cause of Naga freedom movement.”
“We do not want another bloodshed in our land,” it said while maintaining that the Khiamniungans are peace loving citizens who are looking forward to all round development.
The KMH also condemned the incident in a separate statement, stating that it had created fear psychosis and disturbed the peaceful environment –pre-requisite for all round development and progress in the newly upgraded Noklak district.
“The unwarranted and provoking action is being condemned and the KMH will never tolerate such activities and violence in any form that disturbs the very peaceful existence and also threatens the security of the people,” it added.
The apex Khiamniungan women association also appealed to all the Naga national workers and security forces to refrain from such “unlawful activities which leads to law and order problem and honour the sentiments of the people and request for upliftment and betterment of the society.”
The Pangsha people are “tired of being sandwiched” between frequent skirmishes that not only puts the lives of the people in constant danger but also “do not add any credentials to the national struggle,” the PPO said in a statement on August 17 denouncing the incident.
“The Pangsha people hereby invoke the traditional oath that ‘henceforth, whosoever walks on Pangsha’s land with nefarious intent will not be supported by the ground below and the sky above,’” the statement read.
It also put on record that there have been six gun battles from 2015 to 2020 at Dan and questioned the Assam Rifles and the “underground group” responsible for the attack, as to why Dan village has to be their battle ground.
