Land owners demand inquiry into Fakim National Park development

KIPHIRE, MAY 22 (MExN): Hitting out at the “craftily twisted” article issued by the Kiphire Wildlife Warden, the Fakim Land Owners, today, demanded an inquiry into the development of Fakim National Park. Dismissing the said article as a whimsical version and a tactic of mesmerizing and deviating the attention of the public, the land owners outlined and detailed the misuses of funds for development.

The land owners of Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary stated that from 2004-05 to 2006-07, a total of Rs. 15.20 lakhs had been released in two installments for 36kms from Salumi to Fakim village but any achievement was yet to be seen. They also pointed out to the construction of the new Suspension Wooden bridge over Likimro for Rs. 5 Lakhs which had been released during 2004-05 was yet to come up and they also denied that any work had been allotted to Fakim Council Chairman as the article claimed. The release issued by Throngkuba, Ex. Head DB and Phenunglem, Head GB, on behalf of the land owners also brought to light that the construction of two staff quarters was left over by the predecessors of the present staff the Department and not the work of the present team. The land owners also claimed that no money was given to the Chairman or the village for fire line cutting since the posting of the new warden and said that the there was an allotment of a different fund for conducting awareness program for Wildlife Conservation and Celebration of Wildlife Week. The village further stated that during 2005-06, Rs 5 lakhs had been released, out of which nine villages were allotted work for water holes at the rate of Rs. 20, 000 per water hole, but the villages were yet to receive 50% of the payment.

Keeping all the following in mind the land owners unanimously resolved to demand the government that an Enquiry Commission be constituted to bring these allegations to light for the development of the Fakim National Park in the greater interest of the public. The land owners also stated that they would meet the Officer in the designated Office Headquarter if necessary but they had nothing to do with the Kiphire DPDB, as they were not members to it. They further cautioned that the government would be held accountable in case of any untoward events if their appeal for Enquiry was not attended to at the earliest.
