Dimapur, June 12 (MExN): Two persons from Wokha village in Wokha today claimed as “land owners” of “the land occupied by the Government for Middle School” in the village and have sought recompense in the event the school is shifted as proposed. A letter addressed to the Minister of School Education was received here from the two “landowners.”
The letter asserted that the entire land and “its thematic area which is presently occupied by GMS Wokha village” were “donated by us in 1949 on certain conditional agreement when government could not acquire any site to establish the school.” Since the inception of the school in 1949, “we had neither demanded lease of land or compensation nor applied for any job employment and contract works etc. till date,” said a Rhyuzamo Murry and one Ezanbemo Erui in the letter.
It was mentioned that the government has already approved up-upgrading GMS Wokha village to that of a GHS. “But at the same time, it is also felt pain to learn that the government is also intending to shift the present school site to that of some alternative place without the consultation and considering the free will contribution done by the land owner which amounts the violation of agreement signed by the two parties is highly objectionable and unacceptable,” the duo said.
If the school is shifted the letter said, payment “for lease of land for 61 years i.e. since 1949 up to date as per present govt approval rate” must be made and “all the present grade-IV incumbent posts of the GMS Wokha village be immediately accommodated in our favour (land owner) in the event of retirement/death/accident/ age superannuation etc.”
“Any move initiated to shift the school without redressing the grievances may compel us to lock the school building,” the letter cautioned.
